Just Another Review

Title: Before I Fall
Author: Lauren Oliver

I just finished reading that book about an hour ago and WOW it was great! I absolutely adored the ending! I can really picture this book being made into a movie with narrations and a few flashbacks included, everything is described in such detail that the story just unfolds in your mind as a movie!

Before I Fall is about a girl called Sam Kingston (kept making me think of USBs) who is in high school and is part of the popular crowd. She has the kind of cliched life where she used to be a dork and at the bottom rung of the social ladder until the school's most popular girl decided to make her her best friend. This little group of 4 included Lindsay (the girl I was just talking about), Ally, Elody and Sam.

At first, you would think that they were those typical shallow, materialistic, popular girls who only hung out because they needed their own posse and could stab each others' backs without a second thought. However, as you read on, you would realise that these 4 girls really loved each other and thought of each other as family, doing stupid things together that you can only do with your bestest friends in the world.

Basically, Sam dies at the start of the book. This is so not a spoiler because it's clearly stated in the synopsis on the back cover. So how can the main character die in the first chapter? It's because (like the cover states)  she dies and wakes up again on the morning of her death, forced to live through her last day alive again.

Pretty soon she realises that she's been given a second chance, a chance to 'get things right'. But not only is there a second chance for Sam, she also has a third and fourth and fifth and sixth and seventh chance! Yes, you read that right, she relives her last day SEVEN times.Wait I'm sorry, Day 1 was the official day she died, which means she relived her last day SIX TIMES. Oh this is just too confusing to explain. In short, she gets seven chances to live her last day right.

She spends her first few chances doing stupid things just 'cause she can. But the story gets more and more meaningful as it goes on. By the seventh day, she has changed into a different person and finally knows what she has to do to move on. I'm not telling you what, you go read the book.

The story is about an average girl who lives a life like many others. It's about how she learns to appreciate the little things in life and about realising how important certain people are to you. It makes you think about your own life and wonder what you would change if you knew this was your last day alive. How would you want to be remembered when you're gone? What memories will you leave behind? What will your last words to your loved ones be? Will you regret the decisions you've made so far and how can you change them? It's about living and sacrifice, learning from your mistakes and most importantly, accepting the repercussions of the choices you've made.

And I have to say, the last sentence of this book gave me chills. Don't skip to the end, read to the end.

Before I Fall comes highly recommended. Prepare a box of tissues if you're the emotional type.

M is for Megawesome

HELLO WORLD! I have an announcement to make! MEGAN TEOH IS LIKE THE BESTEST FRIEND EVER!

This morning I had my first ever paper for STPM and right before I got to school, I realised something with a shock - THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I DIDN'T GET TO CHEERS WITH MEGAN BEFORE A MAJOR EXAM!!

Ever since we became friends in Form 2, Megan and I have made it a ritual to cheers each other right before any exams we have and so, for every paper in PMR and SPM, we clinked bottles and cheers-ed (is this a real word?? who cares!)!

However, as we all know, MEGAN IS NOT IN FORM 6 AND IS NOT SITTING FOR STPM!! Hence, I started getting a little disappointed about no cheers-ing and texted Megan. Less than a minute later, I got a reply!

"Aww... Come come! Fake cheers. Ok i'm holding my tumbler now. *fake cheers!* gulp. Ahh..."

YAYY!!!! Haha even from approximately 2km away, Megan can still cheers with me! This is only one of the reasons why she's such a Megawesome friend! She is honestly the most thoughtful and considerate friend anyone could have, with the purest heart imaginable! Even to the point of naivety...

Night before my exam, I signed into Facebook and found a message by Megan with a picture attached. It had a '+' sign and a drawing of a petrol pump with petrol dripping out of it. The title of this picture was -you guessed it- JIA YOU! Hahaha typical Megan. She also wrote that she couldn't send offline files through MSN and knew that Facebook is the second place I frequent the most. HOW WELL YOU KNOW ME, MEGAN!

By the way, she did another drawing similar to that before my trials too. 'ALL THE BEST FOR YOUR TEST' very nice drawing made with Paint.

Another thing, Megan is never too busy for you. Need someone to rant to? She's there. Need some advice? She's there. Just wanna share some stupid video or picture? She'd love it. Need someone to accompany you to some dinner/event? Megan's your girl! She's even willing to dress up as a 'German' girl just 'cause you asked her to! (Pretty braids, Megan!)

Ok so Megan might be blur at times and need you to explain a joke to her. But nobody's perfect! And she's as close to perfect as any friend can get! Especially for someone like me who talks a lot and needs someone to listen without worrying you're boring her. :P

Oh yeah and let's not forget Megan introduced me to Skype's awesome secret emoticons. She's the M to my M and we live in a world of colourful pellets of chocolates!! Sometimes with nuts included!! :D

All in all, I LOVE YOU, MEGAN! (Let's see if you'll see this post *smirk*)

May I Take Your Order?

Somehow, today I was thinking about the days when I used to work in HD and I found that I really really really really miss working there. :(

It's not the workmates. Missing the workmates isn't too bad because I can walk by and see them anytime or go out with them anyway. It's the things that are unique to work and can't be done anywhere else that I miss. Such as taking people's orders, recommending new items, telling them not to order the fondue, etc...

I remember once there was this big table sitting at table 11-13 and I went to take their order. They were wondering whether they should order the fondue or something else and asked me 'Do you think we should get the fondue?' I asked if they actually wanted the fruits and biscuits and they were like 'No, we don't really want the biscuits, we just want the chocolate sauce.' so I just told them 'Then don't get the fondue, get the Seventh Heaven or Paradise, depends on how many people wanna share it and you can always order extra chocolate sauce.'

They said 'That's not a bad idea! I think we'll get both!' and they also ordered some Banana Splits. It just makes me SO HAPPY to make people happy. I wonder if that's some sort of syndrome...

And then there's the kids! Not the spoiled annoying ones who demand things, but the cute, shy ones whose faces just light up when the ice cream arrives. I always feel like I'm bringing them a rainbow or something, watching their big smiles and bright eyes. Let's not talk about when that kid puked and I had to clean it up though. Boys are just useless...

Oh and let's not forget the cute guys you get to ogle while working. It's just your curse to be ogled if you're hot so live with it. Not long after I started working, there was this table with 4 people: a couple with another guy and his mum. So from what I could tell, the older woman was mother to the 2 guys and the girl was one's of the guy's girlfriend/fiancee/wife. I was running up and down the stairs all night and knowing me, I was sweating already.

So when I was taking this particular table's order, the mum and girlfriend were off to the toilet or something and the 2 guys were ordering. After I recommended some stuff, (Cappuccino Truffle is a must, and also Paradise if you're sharing) I repeated their order and asked 'Anything else?' and the guy with the girlfriend was like 'Yeah my brother here was wondering if he could have your number.' and his brother was like shooting him looks and going 'Har har he's just joking....' and I just said 'Nope, but you can have my shop's number.', feeling secretly flattered. (The brother who asked could've been just trying to put his brother in a bad spot to make him embarrassed but I don't care!) Can't deny the single brother had really nice eyes though, he was kinda cute.

Hahaha this reminds me of how people had to ask me 'What's your name?' because all my name tag said at the time was 'Trainee, Junior Crew' and then after telling them my name, they would go 'How do you spell that?' That was kinda fun somehow. Sometimes I forgot my name wasn't on my name tag and thought to myself 'Can't they read?' Mean yet true. :P

Another thing I miss a lot: THE TAIWANESE FAMILY!! Honestly, they were my favourite regulars. Always speaking with their Taiwanese accent and always so friendly, you just can't not like them! I hear they don't come every week now, just some weeks. I remember how they came as a family but didn't talk much, mostly just doing their own thing. Mum would be doing Sudoku or something, Dad would be playing with his iPad, Son would be reading his book (mostly thrillers and crime novels). The son had super long hair that all the girls envied and always wore plain, black T-shirts with jeans and steel-toed boots, thought sometimes he wore loafers. WHAT AN ADORABLE FAMILY! They also brought along their daughter and her family when she was out (I guess from Taiwan??) She has 2 kids, 1 boy and 1 girl, kinda cute and not noisy at all! (I like)

I miss working... I wonder if it'll be the same if I worked somewhere else. We shall see next year. Not sure if anywhere can live up to HD... but I could be biased. :P

Until next time, my dear, abandoned blog!! (haha no one reads you anyway, except me!)

HELLO WORLD I'M BACK!

HALLOOOOO PEOPLE! (read that the way PistolShrimps says 'HALLOOO YOUTUBE!')

I realise I've abandoned my blog for about a year already and it has been decaying bit by bit in that period of time but GUESS WHAT?! I'm blogging again! At least I'm blogging ONE POST. So.... if I abandon my blog all over again after today you can't blame me! :P

The person you have to thank for inspiring to blog again is Tan Yi Ling. Just 'cause she mentioned I haven't blogged in a long time. XD Today's post is gonna be about my latest updates!! Plus I just wanna see if anyone actually looks at this thing. Megan, still got your RSS feed? Hahah bet not! Now that you no longer use your pc. I think....

OK SO WHAT'S NEW?!

First up, I resigned from work. Yeah.... Major change I needa get used to. Today's the first day I am no longer a part of the Haagen-Dazs junior crew and I don't feel the pain yet. But maybe that's 'cause I don't usually work weekdays anyway. :P I even made sure I have a jam-packed weekend all planned out this weekend to distract me from.... stuff.... HOWEVER! I have the best workmates on Earth and they bought me 8 SLICES of Secret Recipe cake as a farewell party for me. THANKS SO MUCH YOU GUYS though I know you guys don't know my blog exists! They made my weekend an extremely happy one. :D

Next up, someone said something that made me MELTTTTTTT!!! Very sweet sentence that shall not be mentioned here. But that made me happy too! With a great big dopey grin!!!

Another awesome thing! My darling, Charlie uploaded another video, looking oh-so-charming with his wavy brown hair and pretty eyes!! Going 'AHHHHHHHHHHHH' all over the place and rubbing his nose with a bowl and making his cute Charlie faces and making brownies that I just might try because my mum said they looked nice. Michael Aranda and some other girl that looks pretty was in it too and Michael is HOT!

Now for something that hasn't happened yet but is GOING TO happen! I'm making Oreo Cheesecake tomorrow!!! AND GUESS WHAT?! Just for reading this post, I'm gonna give YOU a slice! That's right, YOU!! Don't look over your shoulder, I'm talking to YOU! So come back in 24 hours and I'll have a slice of Oreo Cheesecake waiting for you! :D NO JOKE!

Is this post long enough? Do I need pictures? Oh crap maybe I do... Hang on I'll upload some..

Picture I drew in Little Cottage 2

Gotta love free pints.... Mmmmm...

Farewell cake!!

My bro forced to take a pic with me!

PIMPLE COOKIES!

Everybody seems to be getting pimples lately. Is it the heat? Is it the late nights? Is it stress? Who knows!

But anyway, I was complaining to a friend of mine about them, and the things that so-called friend were saying made me think of Pimple Cookies!

What are pimple cookies, you ask? Well they are cookies made with strawberries in them so it looks like the cookies have pimples! Brilliant idea or what?!

So I went on Google and found a recipe for Strawberry Chocolate Chip Cookies (aka Pimple Cookies) and decided to try them out! They looked hideous but I thought maybe they would turn out nice...

(By the way, Chris was absolutely disgusted by the idea and Megan liked it. Typical...)

I finally bought my strawberries on Saturday and made the cookies on Sunday. I didn't like them.

First of all, they didn't look pimpley enough to me. Yeah, it was reddish but I didn't have enough strawberries so...

Secondly, they tasted HORRIBLE! The recipe did not tell me they were soft cookies but they came out soft, even after adding a few more minutes to the cooking time. And you could barely taste the strawberries in them! The only thing that gave it some taste was the chocolate chips. Though my brother and mum seemed to like it...

Ok, maybe they're not that bad.... I just don't like them. Never ever making them again! They tasted like kuih bulu with chocolate chips. Just imagine that!

Here're some pictures I took of them. Tell me if you think they actually look pimpley.

I also made Afghan biscuits today. And chocolate chip cookies... But I didn't take any pictures of those yet. Here're what my Afghan biscuits look like. Mmmmmm... Yummy....

This post was dedicated to my art. Get it? HAHAHHAA!

My Mummy's Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My brother and I woke up at 7am to make my mum breakfast in bed. I know, we're like the best kids on earth.....

My brother was smart enough to plan what to make. However, he forgot that sausages need time to defrost after taking them out of the freezer and that's where I come in!!!! I also made the toast and even put the butter on them... Awesome or what? Sometimes i amaze myself...

Oh yeah and my mum said we didn't put any flowers on the tray but who thinks of stuff like that?!

Anyway, I also made her a super cute card which was 100% my idea n made by moi! My art has obviously improved a lot. *smirks*

My bro's card looked like something made by a 5 year-old. And he's supposed to be the artistic one! *snorts*

Then at night, we went to Hard Rock Cafe where my dad bought my mum her birthday present - dinner.

My mum looking happy 'cause she knows she has an amazing daughter.

We ordered NACHOS!!!!!!!!!!!! So good........ They were SO BIG too!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My bro looking like all his Christmases have come in one go, 'cause he's got cake in front of him.

The band came on at 10.30pm and I really liked them! The lead guitarist was REALLY GOOD and he could even play the intro for Sweet Child O' Mine with his guitar behind his head! Cool or what?! The girl singer was my dad's favourite. I liked her too. She sang nice!

They were called The Hybrid Band and 2 of the band members were Thai while the rest were Filipino. The bassist is, by far, the cutest member! He looks like a fisherman! Just look at him!

Cute right??????? He and the drummer are Thai. The drummer was cute too. You should see him when he's playing. Hahahaha......

'The picture below is of the lead guitarist who is just oh-so-cool. Thought I hate his hair. It was long and straightened! But I guess rock stars need long hair...

Here are more pictures of them. The whole band. Try and catch them at Hard Rock Cafe soon, 'cause I think they're leaving next week........ I'm not sure.....

The Vampire Academy

I just read this new book from the library. It's called Shadow Kiss and it's the 3rd book in the Vampire Academy series. The library didn't have the first and second book...

I started reading it and I was absolutely hooked. I finished it in about 7 hours and was left wanting more! I was even in tears towards the ending!!! That's how good it was!

The heroin of the story is Rose and the hero, Dimitri Belikov. Let me just say this is why I prefer books to movies - you can use your imagination to create any guy that you think'll match the character, and you can change characteristics you don't like.

Dimitri is supposed to have long hair in the book but I don't like guys with long hair so I imagine him with short hair. HOT! Think Steven Strait with long/short hair. He looks good in either.

Anyway, Dimitri is Rose's mentor and soon-to-be partner. Both of them are in charge of guarding Lissa after she graduates. They know that they aren't supposed to love each other and try to fight it but their efforts are futile.

Here's a quote from one of the books, I got it from this blog: http://yavampirebooks.blogspot.com/

"No. If I let myself love you, I won't throw myself in front of her. I'll throw myself in front of you."

Forbidden love is always the sweetest. They make you wanna go, "Just kiss her already!!!"

Actually this book reminds me a little of Twilight. I've noticed that a lot of vampire books have love triangles in them. Probably makes things more interesting... Though it gets boring after awhile...

Here's what the book's about:

They come first.

That is what Dhampir, Rosemarie Hathaway was taught since young. Dhampirs (half vampire, half human) are bred as guardians to Moroi (mortal vampires who can use magic). Dhampirs protect Moroi from Strigoi (dead vampires who are made, not born, they're evil).

She is in her last year at St Vladimir's Academy and she already knows her assignment for when she graduates. She was chosen to guard her best friend and Moroi royal, Lissa Dragomir, who is the last of her line.

Lissa has a rare affinity for spirit instead of the usual 4 elements: fire, water, air and earth. Her power of spirit allows her to heal people but she went one step further with Rose and brought her back from the dead.

Ever since, Rose has had a bond with Lissa that allows her to feel everything that Lissa is going through, even though Lissa can't feel anything from Rose. This phenomenon is said to be called 'Shadow Kiss' and Rose is able to act as Lissa's shadow.

All her life, Rose has been dedicated to protecting Lissa and doing what's best for her. She never thought she'd have to choose between the man she loves, Dimitri Belikov and Lissa. To her, the choice was always clear. They come first. No matter what, Lissa always came first. That was the way it'd always been.

But what does she do when tragedy strikes and Dimitri needs her?

Seriously, everyone. This book is really really really worth reading. Chris, ok, read the first book first. Probably better that way.

ps. Check out that blog link for more vampire books. She's awesome. She really seems to know all the vampire books and she updates her blog regularly unlike someone...

Book 1: Vampire Academy

Book 2: Frostbite

Book 3: Shadow Kiss

Book 4: Blood Promise

Book 5: Spirit Bound

I can't wait to read Blood Promise and Spirit Bound! Chris, Sick, Megan, my birthday present?? Please?

Oh ya and I was wondering what Dimitri's Russian accent sounded like. I found this video. When she's repeating her sentence and says she's from Moscow, she's speaking with a Russian accent.

I don't like it. My only consolation is the book said his accent only has a little bit of Russian in it.

Hotness Intensified

I have no idea whether my title is grammatically correct but that is how I feel about the wolf pack in New Moon.

New Moon would be completely not worth watching if it weren't for the wolf pack. Alex Meraz who plays Paul (the wolf who got pissed and Jake had to beat him up), is the hottest werewolf there!

There was this scene in Emily's house where they were all waiting for Paul and Jake to come back and when Paul came in, he sat down and looked over his shoulder at Bella, grinned a bad boy grin and said, 'Sorry.'

WHOOOOOAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!! My heart just went "THUMP!" SOOOOO HOTTTTT!!!!

That concludes what I like about the movie. Here are some pictures to ogle.

Alex Meraz *swoons*
